Burning Brambles

Jesus Christ and the Word of God are my number one priorities in life. I am the husband to my amazing wife Kayla Van Doren and father to two wonderful boys and a daughter on the way. I am the Senior Pastor at Second Baptist Church in Angleton, TX. Preaching and pastoral ministry are my calling and passion. 

My desire is to make maturing disciples of Jesus Christ by encouraging and equipping family members to grow individually and together in their walk with Christ to bring glory to God and enjoy Him now and forever.

The only way to accomplish my desire is to help people encounter God through Christ the Son. That is what this blog is about: Encountering God. My surname comes from the Netherlands and means "from the brambles." If you recall, Moses encountered God in a burning bush, a bramble if you will. So my hope in life is that God would use me like that lowly bush to help others encounter Him and find true and abundant life. 

Some other things about me are that I love tinkering on cars, working outdoors, spending time in the mountains, and touring historical sites. Drinking coffee, listening to podcasts, and watching movies of all kinds are also on my list of likes.
